PARIS, France — TotalEnergies Chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanné visited the Cabo Delgado province in Mozambique on Feb. 3 to review the security and humanitarian situation.
In April 2021 the company and its partners in the province’s Mozambique LNG development decided to withdraw all project personnel following deteriorating security north of Cabo Delgado, and to declare force majeure.
The project involves construction of the country’s first LNG production complex with two trains with a total capacity of 13.1 MMt/year, supplied by gas from the Golfinho and Atum fields in Offshore Area 1.
Pouyanné visited the Afungi industrial site and also met with President Filipe Nyusi to discuss the current conditions.
Jean-Christophe Rufin, a specialist in humanitarian action and human rights, will assess the humanitarian situation in Cabo Delgado province, with the mission also examining the actions taken by Mozambique LNG and suggesting any additional actions that may need to follow.
The report, due to be delivered at the end of February, will be sent to the Mozambique LNG's partners to determine whether the conditions are right for resuming project activities.
TotalEnergies’ partners are ENH Rovuma Área Um, Mitsui E&P Mozambique Area1, ONGC Videsh Rovuma, Beas Rovuma Energy Mozambique, BPRL Ventures Mozambique, and PTTEP Mozambique Area 1.
