HOUSTON — VAALCO Energy has issued an update on its development drilling and exploration activities offshore Gabon.
Following completion of the South Tchibala 1HB-ST well, the rig mobilized to the Southeast Etame North Tchibala (SEENT) platform to drill the North Tchibala 2H-ST well, targeting the Dentale Formation.
Clean-up operations are in progress as activities on and around the platform delayed flowing of the well soon after it completed drilling.
The same rig has performed a workover on the North Tchibala 1-H well to replace a safety valve.
It will also perform a workover on ETSEM-4H, which should restore production to 1,000 bbl/d to 1,500 bbl/d. This well went offline in early September due to failure of an upper electrical submersible pump.
In October, the BWE consortium of VAALCO, BW Energy and Panoro Energy provisionally secured two blocks under Gabon’s 12th Offshore Licensing Round. The award remains subject to finalizing the terms of the production sharing contracts (PSCs) with the government: BW Energy will operater with a 37.5% interest, with VAALCO also holding 37.5% and Panoro Energy 25%.
Both the G12-13 and H12-13 blocks are adjacent to VAALCO’s Etame PSC and BW Energy/Panoro’s Dussafu PSC off southern Gabon.
The PSCs will feature two exploration periods totaling eight years, extendable by two further years. During the second exploration period, the partners will look to reprocess existing seismic and acquire 3D seismic, and they have also committed to drilling one exploration well on each of the blocks.
