Petronas has produced first gas from the Kasawari field development in Block SK316, 200 km offshore Sarawak.

The initial flow rate was 200 MMcf/d. Petronas Carigali operates with a 90% interest, in partnership with Exploration and Production Malaysia Venture (EPMV).

Kasawari, discovered in 2011, will supply feedstock to the Petronas LNG Complex in Bintulu and gas for domestic consumers, with a gas sales rate of 545 MMcf/d. The field contains an estimated 10 Tcf.

At the heart of the development area, a central processing platform (CPP) is bridge-linked to a flare platform and a wellhead platform.

Produced gas is exported to a new riser platform at the E11 production hub through an 81-km subsea carbon steel pipeline for onward delivery to Bintulu.

The fabrication works for the Kasawari platforms and bridges were carried out locally by Malaysia Marine & Heavy Engineering in Pasir Gudang and Ocean Might in Kuching.

The CPP is Malaysia’s heaviest offshore structure platform to date, Petronas added, with a total weight of 53,893 metric tons.
