Tullow addressing production shortfall at Jubilee well offshore Ghana

Gross oil production from the Jubilee Field offshore Ghana has been impacted by performance issues with a new producer well, operator Tullow Oil said in an update.

The J69 well, which came onstream, is producing at rates substantially lower than expected due to a lack of pressure communication from water injection in this part of the field.

No other parts of the field are experiencing this problem. Across Jubilee, water injection has been averaging about 225,000 bbl/d, a new record. That improved rate, along with new J70 water injector well brought onstream in June, has brought good uplift in reservoir pressure, which is already having an impact on production levels and offsetting decline.

As a result, Tullow expects overall Jubilee oil production to remain at about 90,000 bbl/d during the remainder of the year.

The three producers and two water injectors added in the first half of 2024 brought the current drilling program to an end, with the Noble Venturer drillship released from its contract in Ghana ahead of schedule.

A new 4D seismic survey, due to be completed in early 2025, will update the view of the subsurface, and support selection of future drilling candidates and well placement ahead of a 2025/26 drilling campaign.

During the break, the partners plan to integrate results of the recent drilling and to optimize pressure support across the field to maximize production and minimize decline.

At the Tullow-operated TEN fields, also offshore Ghana, recent performance has exceeded expectations, with the Enyenra and Ntomme wells responding positively to injection and production optimization measures.
