Hess has started production from its Pickerel-1 oil discovery in Mississippi Canyon Block 727 in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) via a tieback to the Tubular Bells production complex, the company said in a trading update.

Another exploration well is currently drilling on the Vancouver prospect (Hess 40%) in Green Canyon Block 287. The results should be available later in the current quarter.

Hess’ net production from the GoM in the second quarter was lower at 24,000 boe/d, due to maintenance at the Tubular Bells and Conger fields.

Exxon Mobil has filed an application for the environmental permit for a seventh deepwater development on the Stabroek Block, Hammerhead, with Guyana's Environmental Protection Agency.

Pending regulatory approval and project sanctioning, the development should have a production capacity in the range of 120,000 to 180,000 bbl/d, Hess added, with first oil targeted for in 2029.
