STAVANGER, Norway  Wintershall Dea has restarted production from the Dvalin gas field in the Norwegian Sea, following an extended shutdown due to the presence of high levels of mercury in the well stream.

Since the issue came to light in late 2020, the company has commissioned and installed mercury removal systems at the onshore processing facilities at Nyhamna and Tjeldbergodden in mid-Norway that receive Dvalin’s gas.

The field is connected to the Equinor-operated Heidrun platform 15 km to the southeast via a subsea template with four production wells. Its remaining estimated productive lifetime is until 2038, which includes the current Dvalin North subsea development.

Dvalin is in the Haltenbanken area of the Norwegian Sea, 260 km north of Kristiansund, with expected recoverable reserves of 113 MMboe, most of which is gas.

Wintershall Dea operates in partnership with Petoro and Sval Energi.
