SAN DONATO MILANESE, Italy – Eni has produced first gas from the deepwater Merakes field in the Makassar Strait, offshore East Kalimantan, Indonesia.

The field is in 1,500 m (4,921 ft) water depth in the East Sepinggan block. Development is based on five subsea wells.

Combined gas volumes (up to 450 MMcf/d) are gathered at a manifold for export through subsea pipelines to Eni’s Jangkrik FPU, 45 km (28 mi) distant.

Following processing on the platform, the gas is exported via existing offshore pipelines to the onshore receiving facility in Senipah.

Merakes gas will be partially sold to Indonesia’s domestic sector, and will contribute to the extension of the life of the Bontang LNG plant, which serves domestic and export markets.

Eni operates the East Sepinggan block in partnership with Neptune Energy and PT Pertamina Hulu Energi.
