LONDON – Reliance Industries and bp have produced first gas from the deepwater R Cluster field in block KG D6 offshore eastern India.
The two companies are presently developing three deepwater gas projects in the block which should collectively supply ~15% of India’s gas demand by 2023, bp said. All will be tied into the existing hub infrastructure.
R Cluster is 60 km (37 mi) from the KG D6 Control and Riser Platform (CRP) off the Kakinada coast and has been developed via a subsea production system exporting to CRP through a subsea pipeline.
The water depth of more than 2,000 m (6,562 ft) is the deepest for any gas field offshore Asia, bp added. At peak next year it should deliver around 12.9 MMcm/d.
Satellites Cluster should come onstream in 2021 followed by the MJ project in 2022.
Total production from the three fields should be close to 30 MMcm/d by 2023.
