ABERDEEN, UK -- Petrofac has awarded BJ Services' tubular services line a contract to provide casing and tubing running services for the Don Southwest and West Don fields.
BJ Services will work on the seven-well drilling program from the semisubmersible John Shaw. The drilling program is scheduled to begin this month and should be complete by the end of 2009. All related services are being provided by dedicated personnel based at the Tubular Services global headquarters in Aberdeen, Scotland, the company says.
To ensure that the casing and tubing running operation is carried out effectively, BJ Services will use a fully mechanized running system that includes its Leadhand tong manipulating technology with hydraulic casing and backup tongs, according to the company.
In addition, BJ plans to install its Derrickman system on the drilling rig. This remotely-operated mechanical arm makes it possible to maneuver tubulars and drill pipe into a vertical position without a crew member acting as a traditional stabber, the company says.
