Shell UK Ltd., operator for a group, has begun oil production from the Howe field in block 22/12a in the UK North Sea 160 km from Aberdeen. Howe is tied back to the Nelson platform through a 14-km subsea tieback. Total oil production is expected to reach 13,000 b/d.
This is the second North Sea production project Shell has brought onstream in the last month. The Goldeneye venture in the Outer Moray Firth, central North Sea, began production on Oct. 18.
"We expect Howe to produce for around eight years," Greg Hill, production director of Shell Exploration & Production in Europe, says. Partners in the field include Enterprise Oil with 60%, Petro Summit Investment UK Ltd. 20%, and OMV (UK) Ltd. 20%.
