RIO DE JANEIRO – Petrobras has discovered oil in the presalt layer of the Campos basin, close to the Marlim Sul field.
This was the first commercial presalt oil find in the area, the company added.
Well 6-MLS-233-RJS (Petrobras nomenclature), on the Poraquê Alto prospect, was drilled in 1,107 m (3,632 ft) of water, 115 km (71.5 mi) offshore Rio de Janeiro state. Final depth was 4,568 m (14,987 ft).
The discovery was confirmed by profile data, a gas detector, formation testing by cable, and fluid samples. Analysis suggests carbonate reservoirs of good porosity and permeability at a depth of 4,420 m (14,501 ft), and 45 m (147 m) thick with oil presence.
This shows there is potential for new discoveries in Brazil’s mature basins, Petrobras added, with production infrastructure near at hand to facilitate development.
