(Canada) - British Columbia hopes to persuade Ottawa to lift a ban on offshore oil and gas exploration.
British Columbia Energy Minister Richard Neufeld says they were working with the federal government on how to move forward with lifting the 34-year moratorium.
An estimated 10 Bbbl of oil and 40 tcf of natural gas are thought to exist off the Queen Charlotte Islands.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper, however, says the government has no plans to alter the federal moratorium on offshore drilling.
