Mauritania’s Ministère du Pétrole, des Mines et de l’Énergie has appointed TGS to integrate, enhance and license additional offshore and onshore subsurface data.

The offering will include 10 narrow azimuth input 3D seismic surveys, processed by ION in 2022 using 3D pre-stack depth migration, creating a fully merged and migrated volume of 19,092 sq km.

In addition, there is about 84,000 sq km of 3D surveys from offshore block relinquishments, offshore and onshore wells.

To date, TGS said exploration offshore Mauritania has focused on the Cenozoic salt-draped channel plays, which delivered the Chinguetti Field discovery in 2001.

Most wells since have targeted this play, although recent exploration in deepwater and nearby regions has revealed strong potential in Cretaceous channel sand plays and shelf clastics above the carbonate platform.

There is further potential in the carbonate platform and syn-rift areas.

The datasets, combined with the company’s database along the MSGBC Basin in northwest Africa, “will enable a thorough mega-regional analysis, enhancing understanding of analogs and variations along the margin," said David Hajovsky, executive vice president of Multi-Client at TGS.
