MELBOURNE, Australia ā€“ The Polarcus Naila has started the Beehive 3D seismic survey in the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf, 225 km (140 mi) southwest of Darwin.

According to operator Santosā€™ partner Melbana Energy, the vessel will acquire around 600 sq km (231 sq mi) of seismic data over the potentially giant Carbonate Beehive prospect.

Results should help de-risk the prospect and identification of a location for the Beehive-1 exploration well.

Water depths in the acquisition area range from around 30-50 m (98-164 ft).
