HOUSTON -- The new RockView service gives better in situ mineralogy and total organic carbon measurements, says Baker Hughes, as part of the Baker Atlas Shale Gas Evaluation suite.

RockView uses gamma ray spectroscopy to gather data without the need for core samples, says Baker Hughes. The FLeX tool enables direct measure of formation aluminum and magnesium for mroe accurate clay typing and carbonate reservoir characterization.

“The interpretive results from RockView are particularly important for unconventional reservoirs, which can be quite complex in nature,” says Gary Cresswell, vice president of wireline systems for Baker Hughes. “Heterogeneity of the rock mineralogical composition can have a significant impact on the design of the completion and stimulation programs and, ultimately, production."
