EDINBURGH, UK – Melrose Resources has completed interpretation of 3D seismic data acquired last year over the central area of the Galata block offshore Bulgaria.
Seven gas structures have been identified in the area with total combined unrisked P50 prospective resources estimated at 125 bcf (3.5 bcm). Highest ranked is Kamchia, a 27-bcf (764-MMcm) prospect with a chance of drilling success of 40%.
In early 2013, a well will most likely be drilled at Kamchia as part of a multi-well program for Melrose. The program also will include completion of the Kavarna East discovery, and two exploration wells to the north in the Romanian sector of the Black Sea.
Should Kamchia prove to be commercial, the discovery would be developed via a subsea tieback to the Galata field production platform, which also hosts the Kavarna and Kaliakra tiebacks.
Melrose also has submitted a bid for the Khan Asparuh license in the western part of the Bulgarian Black Sea. The company has bid for the block on a 100% basis, but if successful, would look to farm down its interest to around 35%.
Offshore southern France, the company has yet to receive clarification from the French authorities following submission of an extension request to itsRhone Maritime license. The prescribed time for a response has passed with no contact made. Melrose is evaluating its legal options.
