BRISTOL, UK – The partners in Tanzania’s Mnazi Bay concession are set to award a 3D offshore seismic acquisition contract.

According to Wentworth Resources, work on the 210-sq km (81-sq mi) survey should start before year-end.

The data will be used to delimit current offshore leads and map potential extensions to the offshore discoveries made by BG Group and Ophir in adjacent offshore block 1.

Wentworth and partners Maurel et Prom and TPDC are also finalizing a gas sales agreement for theMnazi Bay to Dar es Salaam gas pipeline project. The 532-km (330-mi) pipeline, which should be installed and commissioned within 18 months, could eventually supply 200 MMcf/d (5.7 MMcm/d).

The Mnazi Bay concession area is in coastal, southeastern Tanzania in the Ruvuma basin, in between Aminex’s Ruvuma concession area and BG Group’s offshore block 1. It contains two Tertiary age gas field discoveries (Mnazi Bay and Msimbati), with additional potential at Tertiary, Cretaceous, and Jurassic levels.
