ALTON, UK -- Hurricane Exploration has confirmed that its recent Whirlwind exploration well discovered oil on the Atlantic margin, west of Shetland.
Although it was not possible to obtain an oil sample during wireline testing, subsequent geochemical analysis of the drill cuttings and sidewall cores suggest the presence of a 270-m (886-ft) TVT gross oil column over the penetrated limestone and basement interval.
Whirlwind says this fresh analysis validates its decision to suspend the well. However, it will not be possible to evaluate Whirlwindās reservoir potential of Whirlwind until the well has been re-entered and tested.
