OSLO, Norway — PGS plans a further Geostreamer 3D seismic survey next year over the Outer Vøring Basin in the Norwegian Sea, providing an extension to data acquired earlier this year.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate recently called for increased exploration in the area to meet its forecast for future Norwegian gas production to fulfil export requirements to the UK and mainland Europe.

According to PGS, Outer Vøring offers Cretaceous reservoirs and open license blocks at the northern end of the Polarled pipeline in the northern Norwegian Sea. A planned extension of the pipeline system connecting the Irpa Field to the Aasta Hansteen platform could also offer opportunities for tying in other new discoveries.

Next year’s GeoStreamer 3D survey will apply the latest acquisition configurations and imaging technology, said PGS geoscientist Jens Beenfeldt.

“PGS data can facilitate more advanced evaluations, to find the traps and explore the Gjaller Upper Cretaceous sands," Beenfeldt added. "Next steps could include testing the Paleocene plays.”
