ATHENS, Greece  PGS has completed 2D seismic surveys over the West and southwest areas offshore Crete, Greece, for licensees Exxon Mobil and Helleniq Energy.

Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Co. (HEREMA), the authority that manages the concession rights on behalf of the Greek State, said a total of 12,278 line km were collected, far above the minimum contractual obligation of 6,500 km for the two blocks combined.

Both cover unexplored areas within the Greek EEZ and are thought to be prospective for gas.

HEREMA delegated its own independent observers to monitor implementation and compliance with all environmental measures and regulations during the offshore campaign, which started on Nov. 12, 2022.

Data processing, interpretation and evaluation will now follow to support the licensees’ decisions on whether to enter the next exploration phase.

Licensees in the 20,058-sq-km West of Crete area and in the southwest of Crete (19,868 sq km) are ExxonMobil Exploration & Production Greece (70% and operator) and HELPE West Crete (30%).
