OSLO, Norway  TGS, SLB and Petrobangla will conduct a new multiphase 2D seismic program offshore Bangladesh.

The initial phase, due to start shortly, will involve acquiring a minimum of about 11,000 line km of HR broadband seismic data, designed to improve understanding of the prospective Bengal Fan. According toTGS CEO Kristian Johansen, this is one of the world’s most-extensive remaining unexplored frontier basin.

The new data will support future licensing rounds involving revised fiscal terms.

In total, the partners plan to acquire close to 32,000 line km of seismic covering most of Bangladesh’s offshore sector, using long offset and long record lengths to image deeper sections and other areas with no prior seismic data coverage.

Results will be processed via broadband pre-stack time and depth migrated (PSTM/PSDM) workflows.

TGS expects to use final Phase 1 processing during first-quarter 2024.
