SEOUL, South Korea —ABS has granted Hyundai Heavy Industries approval in principle (AiP) for a large-scale CO2 injection system, enabling development of an offshore floating geological storage platform.
The 1-million-ton system will inject CO2 storage in subsurface formations and will more than double previous injection capacity, ABS said.
It will be installed and operated on a floating offshore platform, receiving CO2 from visiting gas carriers.
The system will be equipped with a CO2 heating circuit without the need for an external power source, with the heating medium circulated in a closed loop using seawater.
The arrangement should improve efficiency of the process, ABS added.
