LEIDSCHENDAM, the Netherlands  The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has contracted Fugro to perform marine site characterization for the Sørlige Nordsjø II offshore wind farm in the southern Norwegian North Sea.

Fugro’s scope includes mapping the seafloor and sub-seafloor to broaden understanding of the site’s geological features and support the project’s future development.

Sørlige Nordsjø II will be developed in two phases, each of 1,500 MW, and will be one of Norway’s first large-scale offshore wind farms.

The survey vessel Fugro Venturer will cover a 900-sq-km area on the site’s eastern side, delivering more than 5,400 km of geophysical data.

Fugro will deploy various hydrographic surveying technologies and acoustic sensors including full bathymetry and side scan sonar, an ultrahigh-resolution seismic survey, sub-bottom profiler and magnetometer, and will also record water column data from the multibeam bathymetry system.
