BERGEN, Norway ā Shearwater GeoServices Software Inc. has struck a technology sale and transfer agreement with ConocoPhillips.
This will allow Shearwater to incorporate ConocoPhillipsā Compressive Seismic Imaging (CSI) and other imaging-related algorithms into Shearwaterās Reveal seismic imaging and processing software.
CSI uses algorithms to optimize the choice of non-uniform data collection points, unlike the traditional approach of uniform sampling, which involves collecting data on a regular grid.
Use of CSI is said to allow geoscientists to reconstruct more accurate and better quality seismic images with less data, helping ConocoPhillips to improve decisions, cut costs, and improve efficiency of exploration in new areas.
Reveal provides time and depth processing and imaging for marine and land environments from within a single user interface. Shearwater uses it for all processing projects, and has licensed the software to oil and gas companies, contractors, and consultants.
Under the collaboration, ConocoPhillips will become a user of Reveal while Shearwater will support future development and use of CSI, also providing ConocoPhillips with potential seismic acquisition design and imaging services.
Over 4,500 compute nodes and 50 Petabytes of storage will be deployed throughout Shearwaterās seismic acquisition fleet.
