LEIDSCHENDAM, the Netherlands – Fugro will conduct the preliminary geotechnical site investigation for a purpose-built energy island offshore Denmark for Energinet.

The island, located 80 km (49.7 mi) offshore in the North Sea, will serve as a hub connecting hundreds of wind turbines.

Fugro’s investigations will also encompass the adjacent offshore wind farm zone. The geo-data will support preparation of a geological/geotechnical soil model which wind farm developers will use to formulate their future tenders.

Field work will run from February to May 2022, with up to four geotechnical vessels allocated. Fugro will deploy its SEACALF Mk V Deepdrive system for seabed cone penetration tests, and the WISON Mk V Ecodrive for downhole testing.

Various laboratories will work on the lab testing program, including Fugro’s newly certified facility in Belgium.
