OSLO, Norway – PGS’ Ramform Sovereign has started acquiring an 8,500-sq km (3,292-sq mi) 3D survey in the Sarawak basin offshore Malaysia, for a consortium comprising PGS, TGS and WesternGeco.
The survey is over the West Luconia province, an area comprising Tertiary clastic and carbonate targets similar to those offshore Sabah, and part of the greater northwest Borneo Sundaland geological province.
The vessel is deploying a wide-tow source, with a broadband multi-sensor GeoStreamer configuration of 14 streamers, each 8,025 m (26,329 ft) long and with a streamer separation of 93.75 m (307 ft), tailored to the water depths and targets.
This is the first phase of a multi-year contract awarded by Petronas last year to the Sabah-Sarawak seismic consortium, which involves acquiring and processing up to 105,000 sq km (40,541 sq mi) of multi-client 3D data over a five-year period in the Sarawak basin.
