OSLO, Norway – TGS and Schlumberger will jointly acquire a new 3D seismic survey in the Red Sea, offshore Egypt.
This will cover an area of around 6,800 sq km (2,625 sq mi). The survey, supported by industry funding, will be acquired with long offsets and processed using a pre-stack depth migration workflow to enable sub-salt imaging ahead of an anticipated license round, with final products set to be delivered in 4Q 2022.
Kristian Johansen, CEO of TGS, said: “The Egyptian Red Sea area comprises a range of prospective hydrocarbon systems with large, untested structures offering excellent growth opportunities for oil companies.”
TGS and Schlumberger have a long-term arrangement with the Egypt Ministry of Petroleum and South Valley Egyptian Petroleum Holding Company (GANOPE) to promote the prospectivity of the Red Sea.
GANOPE is responsible for managing Egypt’s hydrocarbon resource potential under latitude line 28°.
