OSLO, Norway – PGS has completed acquisition of a GeoStreamer X survey over the EnQuest-operated Kraken oilfield, east of Shetland in the UK northern North Sea.

Ramform Vanguard acquired the survey, which covered two new azimuths of 200 sq km (77 sq mi). First data should be available next spring.

PGS says that GeoStreamer X is a high-density, multi-azimuth solution that can complement existing GeoStreamer coverage, providing near-field exploration data to help address imaging challenges.

Kraken’s reservoir, in blocks 9/2b and 9/2c, is in oil-bearing Paleocene Heimdal sands. The Kraken North, Central, and South are produced via an FPSO.

The new GeoStreamer X survey was prefunded by the P1575 licensees to improve understanding of the acreage to assist assessment of the development potential of a new western area and near-field tieback opportunities.

Seismic acquisition around Kraken’s FPSO was coordinated with the operator.

Sónia Pereira, PGS’s VP Data Sales Europe, said: “With GeoStreamer X data, both exploration and production teams achieve better illumination in their targeted areas, which enables much-improved fault definition and saves drill time with accurate targeted positioning.”
