PERTH, Australia – Shearwater’s Geo Coral vessel has started acquisition of the Archer 3D survey in the Bedout basin offshore Western Australia for Santos.
According to partner Carnarvon Petroleum, the data is being acquired, in conjunction with the contiguous WA-541-P joint venture, with an alternative azimuth to the existing Capreolus and Keraudren 3D datasets, and mainly over the Dorado oil field.
It will support well placement for the Dorado development planning to ensure maximum productivity, also assisting a review of the exploration potential southwest of the field.
Archer 3D should take 40-50 days to complete, with the vessel then performing the Keraudren Extension 3D survey, an area with more than 30 prospects and leads identified from 2D data over the WA-436-P and WA-438-P permits.
This second survey will start in the south of the 2021 acquisition area, adjacent to Capreolus in WA-438-P, before heading north. Pending approvals, the Geo Coral will employ its multi-sensor streamer system for the entire campaign (around three and a half months), covering an area of up to 4,800 sq km (1,853 sq mi).
