LONDON – Independent Oil and Gas (IOG) has upgraded resources at two of its gas development prospects in the UK southern North Sea.

This follows a program of 3D seismic reprocessing to PSDM, initiated last year, and covering a total area of over 1,200 sq km (463 sq mi) across the company’s southern North Sea portfolio.

In license P2438, the re-worked data shows a clearer image of the Goddard discovery, suggesting a larger structure than had previously been mapped.

As a result, IOG has upped its estimate of potential gas volumes by 22% to 57-258 bcf. Two flank structures adjacent to the main discovery have also had resource range upgrades.

In addition, the seismic reinterpretation has identified a further prospect southeast of Goddard, named Southsea, with prospective resources of up to 76 bcf.

IOG now plans to update the static and dynamic reservoir models with the interpretations of the reprocessed seismic to support a future field development plan.

License P2442 (Abbeydale Area) is south of the offshore Thames Pipeline and adjacent to the Leman and Hewett fields.

Interpretation and mapping of the newly reprocessed 3D data indicates a larger gas resource at the Abbeydale (ex-Aberdonia) discovery, drilled by Mobil in 1996, with other prospects and leads identified across the license.

North of Abbeydale is the Camelot Complex of fields developed and produced by Mobil and Perenco. One of these is Cador: IOG proposes to re-name the field’s western extension Kelham (up to 36 bcf).

West of Abbeydale is the new Thornbridge prospect (up to 73 bcf).

IOG believes there may be scope for a new hub development on the license that could be connected to the Thames Pipeline, with a successful discovery at Thornbridge likely large enough to host an unmanned platform, with Abbeydale, Kelham, and others tied into as subsea developments.

Under the terms of the license, IOG and its partner must commit by Sept. 30, 2021 to drill a well in the following two years, or surrender the concession.
