MASSY, France – CGG has committed to phase two of its multi-client 3D survey in the northern North Sea.
This will add a second azimuth over the company’s existing Northern Viking Graben (NVG) multi-client 3D survey and extend coverage into the UK continental shelf.
Shearwater GeoServices will start data acquisition for the five-month program in early May, delivering around 8,000 sq km (3,089 sq mi) of new data in an E-W direction.
As with the 2020 phase one survey, multi-component technology will be deployed, and CGG will process the results with the existing N-S data, using its latest velocity modeling and imaging technology, to produce a dual-azimuth volume.
The added azimuth should allow the company’s proprietary processing technique to address and improve imaging of multi-directional fault patterns in the region. Improved resolution should help resolve complex and marginal reservoir stratigraphy, CGG added.
Fast-track data should be available by the end of 2021, and final processed data during the second half of 2022.
Sophie Zurquiyah, CEO of CGG said: “Early results from the 2020 phase one acquisition demonstrate that… the new data will further de-risk existing fields and unlock the significant remaining near-field potential.”
Irene Waage Basili, CEO of Shearwater GeoServices, said: “With the addition of this award to our backlog, we are now experiencing increasing demand for Shearwater’s multi-sensor vessels for the upcoming 2021 season.”
