CAIRO, Egypt – The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Schlumberger have unveiled a national project for digitalization of Egypt’s subsurface data.

In addition, the Egypt Upstream Gateway will provide global access to this data, which is being updated through enhancements to legacy datasets involving reprocessing and new studies.

H.E. Eng. Tarek El-Molla, minister of petroleum and mineral resources, Egypt, said the initiative “will digitally promote Egypt’s oil and gas bid rounds through seamless online access to the sector’s data, as well as endorsing our exploration potential worldwide.”

Rajeev Sonthalia, president, Digital & Integration, Schlumberger, added: “With the launch of this industry-first platform, the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and its affiliates—EGPC, EGAS, GANOPE—can digitally showcase national assets to investors worldwide, in addition to leveraging the latest digital technology and solutions to accelerate discovery throughout the country.”

The Gateway provides digital access to over 100 years of accumulated national offshore and onshore seismic, well-log, production, and additional subsurface data via a single platform.

It is designed to help E&P companies de-risk decisions, with the data accessible from virtually anywhere, according to Schlumberger, using the platform’s online portal.

In addition, it will host Egypt's upcoming bid round highlighting lease availability information to national and international investors.
