ABU DHABI, UAE – ADNOC has awarded CNPC subsidiary BGP a contract worth up to $519 million to expand the scope of a current 3D seismic survey offshore and onshore Abu Dhabi.
The award extends the total area to be covered by the survey to 85,000 sq km (32,818 sq mi).
It also expands the scope to encompass shallow water, coastal areas and islands. BGP will deploy technologies such as cable-less equipment, along with various ‘environmentally friendly’ seismic sources. Acquisition will capture high-resolution 3D images of the complex subsurface structure at ultra-deep locations and help to identify potential hydrocarbon reservoirs.
The resultant high-density survey data will be analyzed at ADNOC’s Thamama Subsurface Center for use by all successful bidders under Abu Dhabi’s first block bid round.
For a cost, the data will also be available to second bid round winners: awards should begin later this year.
In July 2018, ADNOC awarded the first set of contracts for the seismic survey. To date, BGP has reached almost 60% progress in executing the initial scope, with the full survey due to be completed in 2024.
