DUBAI, UAE – Polarcus is offering its Cygnus multi-client 3D broadband dataset for licensing to bidders for new exploration acreage offshore Western Australia.

The data is said to address the geological challenges and limitations of legacy data over areas including blocks AC20-4 and AC20-5 in the Vulcan sub-basin.

Last year’s Bratwurst exploration well, drilled on the AC/P64 block, revealed the potential of an area previously deemed non-prospective when reviewed using legacy data, Polarcus claimed.

However, the new Cygnus data clearly showed the amplitude-supported prospect.

A review of the AC20-4 and AC20-5 areas has identified numerous leads, including new plays such as the deep Permian carbonates and Jurassic sand bodies in the Swan Graben.

Bidding for the blocks is due to close on June 1, 2021.
