OSLO, NorwayPGS has made available final data for its Mawson multi-client 3D seismic survey over the North Carnarvon basin offshore Western Australia.

The survey applied a triple-source GeoStreamer 3D survey design to deliver seismic data with pre-stack AVO/AVA fidelity, in order to image deep Triassic fault blocks in the Outer Exmouth, Carnarvon basin.

PGS conducted acquisition over a 10-week period early last year. Processing and imaging of the full integrity data are now complete, and the company believes the area will be relevant for licensing in 2020.

Rick Irving, vice president for New Ventures and Sales, Australasia, said: “The survey offered an extremely fast method of delivering a new understanding of held acreage for license-holders while expanding coverage to vacant acreage that may provide future licensing opportunities.”

The North Carnarvon basin is a frontier area containing various styles of structural/stratigraphic traps within the prospective Triassic fault blocks and Upper Jurassic sediments.

It is on trend with gas accumulations to the south and close to existing production infrastructure.
