BP starts up Raven 2 gas wells offshore Egypt

Second development phase involves subsea tieback of infill wells.

BP has started production from the second development phase of the Raven field in the Mediterranean Sea, offshore Egypt.

It involves subsea tieback of infill wells to onshore infrastructure, as part of the West Nile Delta (WND) project. BP operates with an 82.75% interest, in partnership with Harbour Energy (17.25%).

The new wells should produce around 220 bcf of gas and 7 MMbbls of condensate.

Nader Zaki, BP’s regional president for the Middle East and North Africa, said: “The focus of the Raven Infills project has been to fight natural decline and increase production while maximizing our existing infrastructure to meet Egypt’s domestic market demand at pace.”

The WND Gas Development comprises various gas condensate fields in the North Alexandria and West Mediterranean Deepwater concessions. Raven, the last to be developed, went onstream early in 2021, producing through eight subsea wells up to 65 km offshore, in water depths varying from 550-700 m.

Start-up of phase followed completion earlier this month of the El King-2 exploration well in the North King Mariout Offshore Concession.

The well, spudded by the Valaris DS-12 drillship in mid-January, encountered two prospective Messinian reservoirs at around 2,400 m MD. The DS-12 will next drill the Fayoum-5 exploration well in the North Alexandria concession.
