STORD, Norway – Sarens has completed the load-out, weighing, and jacking of a topsides for Equinor’s Johan Sverdrup utility platform on a quayside at Kvaerner’s construction complex in Stord.
The topsides is due to be transported to the field center in the North Sea for installation early next year, housing more than 200 personnel.
The platform will include sleeping areas, kitchen, dining room, recreational areas, and utility control systems.
Sarens was responsible for transporting the 110 x 61 x 26-m (361 x 200 x 85-ft) module 200 m (656 ft) from the fabrication hall to the barge on self-propelled modular transporters made by the TII Group.
“Despite heavy rain and high winds, the operation was perfectly executed according to the project plan,” said project manager Tor Arne Naess.
Sarens staff employed 32,500-metric ton (35,825-ton) weighing cells to determine the LC-LL module’s exact weight of 12,200 metric tons (13,448 tons). They then jacked the module around 13 m (43 ft) above the barge deck so that the grillage could be installed, using four towers of CS 5000 jacking systems.
Most of the equipment had been transported from the company’s headquarters by ship, while the rest had arrived by truck. It took 20 days to complete the rigging, as the surface beneath the module required extensive cribbing on the trailers.
