LONDON -- The first gas platform is being installed on the Babbage gas field, according to operator E.ON Ruhrgas. Natural gas production is expected to begin in April 2010.
The platform will be installed in a water depth of 42 m (138 ft). E.ON and its partners plan to drill five wells in two phases until 2011, resulting in production of around 2 MMcf/d. The gas will be transported by pipeline to the UK market.
Partners in the field are Dana Petroleum (E&P) (40 %) and Centrica Resources (13 %).
The field is expected to produce more than 5 bcm of natural gas.
