LONDON – BP confirms the safe installation of the Clair Ridge platform jackets 75 km (47 mi) west of Shetland.
The $6.97-billion second phase development of Clair field comprises two new bridge-linked platforms and new pipeline infrastructure connecting to processing facilities on Shetland. The next milestone will be installation of the topsides, scheduled for 2015, with production expected to start in late 2016.
Clair Ridge is designed to produce 640 MMbbl of oil over 40 years, with peak production of up to 120,000 b/d. The project is based in London, where more than 750 people are currently employed.
It is also the first large-scale offshore enhanced oil recovery (EOR) scheme employing reduced salinity water injection (LoSa EOR) to extract a higher proportion of oil over the life of the field.
The platforms will be powered by dual-fuel power generators incorporating waste heat recovery. Vapor recovery will capture and recycle low-pressure gas for use as fuel or for export to shore.
