Saudi teams deliver deck for latest tie-in platform

Saudi Aramco and the STAR yard have completed the largest offshore tie-in platform ever constructed in Saudi Arabia.

DAMAM, Saudi ArabiaSaudi Aramco and the STAR yard have completed the largest offshore tie-in platform ever constructed in Saudi Arabia.

The Marham TP-9 deck is part of Saudi Aramco’sOffshore Maintain Potential Program, which covers the fabrication and installation of four oil producing platforms and associated pipelines and power cables.

The project was completed in collaboration with the company’s Offshore Projects Department.

STAR yard (Saipem Taqa Al-Rushaid Fabricators Co.), a joint venture between Saudi Enterprises and Saipem, constructed the platform at King Abdul Aziz Port of Dammam.

The yard, established in 2007 withAramco, fabricates offshore structures and accessories.

This capability was the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and has recently been supplemented by the opening of McDermott International’s new fabrication yard.McDermott is a long-term offshore contractor for Aramco.

Ahmed A. Al-Saadi, senior vice president technical services at Aramco, said the project highlighted the effectiveness of the company’s IKTVA (In-Kingdom Total Value Add Program).

“By establishing strategic partnerships with local manufacturers, and successfully executing projects in our vast offshore fields within extremely aggressive schedules,” he added, “we are showing the world that our manufacturers are highly competent and customer focused.”
