ABERDEEN, U.K.  Cornerstone Resources Group has received confirmation from Britain’s North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) of the assessment phase of the proposed Abbey gas field development in the U.K. southern North Sea.

The company now plans to submit a field development plan including three horizontal production wells within the next few weeks.

Abbey extends across licenses P2582 and P2433. The initial term of the exploration and appraisal phase started in December 2020, and the work commitments for Phase A are complete.

Phase C, the exploration and appraisal phase, includes a commitment to drill a well to 3,350 m TVDSS or 30 m below the top of the Carboniferous.

Abbey submitted an application to the NSTA to substitute a development well for the commitment well during the second term of the exploration phase; it expects approval for this and the Abbey development plan from the NSTA.

A four-year development phase would be followed by an 18-year production phase. However, the terms allow the licensee to accelerate subsequent phases to match the progress of work programs and approvals.
