FORNEBU, Norway – Aker Solutions has shipped the topsides for the normally unmanned wellhead platform for Aker BP’s Hod field redevelopment in the southern Norwegian North Sea.
The 2,000-metric-ton (2,204-ton) topsides, built in Verdal, will be installed on the steel jacket that was delivered by Aker Solutions in June.
This was the second project for Aker BP’s Fixed Facilities Alliance, which was established in the spring of 2017. The operator works with Aker Solutions and ABB in a joint organization, the goal being to cut time and costs compared to the traditional model in which the client and its suppliers have separate roles and responsibilities.
For Hod the alliance drew on experience from the wellhead platform for the nearby Valhall Flank West project, which it completed in summer 2019. According to Aker Solutions, that project established a new standard for how complete a facility can be prior to installation on the field.
With Hod B, basically a replica of Valhall Flank West, the alliance has optimized its implementation model through the re-use of personnel, facilities, and equipment; and the overall cost was lower than for Valhall Flank West.
Responsibilities included design, procurement, fabrication, preparation for sea transport, and hook-up/assistance for completion on the field.
The contract, worth just under NOK1 billion ($113 million) to Aker Solutions, was awarded in June 2020. At peak, around 550 people from the alliance and subcontractors were working on the project.
