STAVANGER, Norway – The Norwegian authorities have approved Equinor’s development plan for the Breidablikk field in the North Sea.
Field investments are about NOK 18.6 billion ($2.2 billion). Production is scheduled to start in the first half of 2024.
Equinor and its partners Petoro, Vår Energi, and ConocoPhillips Skandinavia submitted the development plans to the authorities in September 2020. Estimated recovery from the field is around 200 MMbbl of oil. Breidablikk is northeast of the Grane field in 127 m (416 ft) of water.
The Breidablikk development involves drilling 23 oil producing wells from four six-slot subsea templates. The field will be tied back to the Grane platform for processing before the oil is piped to the Sture terminal. The production will be monitored by digital tools from Equinor’s integrated operations center at Sandsli.
The development will also include a separate cable for electricity and fiber-optic communication from the Grane platform. According to the company, this is a relatively new technology that can reduce the costs associated with any further development of the field, in addition to facilitating the use of docking stations for subsea drones on the seabed.
Breidablikk will be phased in during a period of declining oil production from Grane and will therefore help maintain the platform activity level.
According to Equinor, 70% of the value creation in the development phase goes to Norwegian companies. Contracts totaling NOK 8 billion ($934 million) have already been awarded to companies in Norway.
Aker Solutions will deliver four subsea templates and up to 23 subsea trees and associated components.
Wood is responsible for topsides modifications and upgrade of the Grane platform.
TechnipFMC will provide pipelaying and subsea installation services. The company will also deliver an umbilical for power.
Odfjell Drilling’s semisubmersible Deepsea Aberdeen will drill the wells.
Schlumberger Norge will deliver integrated drilling and well services.
Alcatel Submarine Networks will provide the fibre-optic and electrical infrastructure from the Grane platform to the subsea production facility.
Floatel International will supply an accommodation rig to be gangway connected to the Grane platform for accommodation and catering purposes. Norwegian sub-suppliers will provide catering and base services.
H. Butting GmbH & Co. KG and Mitsui & Co. Norway AS will deliver linepipe.
