TEHRAN, Iran – The jackup MD-1 is preparing to start development drilling at the South Pars Phase 11 location in the Persian Gulf.

According to news service Shana, the rig departed the Soroush oil field on Saturday and was heading to South Pars on the Iranian-Qatari offshore median line.

Iranian contractor won a three-year tender for lease of the rig, which will drill and complete five of the 12 wells (one vertical and four horizontal wells) from the SPD-11B platform for production from the Kangan reservoir.

Following installation of the topsides, seven further directional wells should be drilled and completed.

Petropars is operating the development after Total and CNPC withdrew due to US sanctions against Iran.
