TEHRAN, Iran – Development drilling will start during the next 12 months on the South Pars Phase 11 project in the Persian Gulf.

Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zanganeh made the announcement on news service Shana’s website.

National Iranian Oil Co. had sanctioned a consortium led by Total to develop the phase after the Obama administration lifted US sanctions on Iran.

But after President Trump re-imposed restrictions on Iran’s oil, banking and transportation sectors in November 2018, Total and CNPC pulled out of the project.

Zanganeh added that production from all operational phases of South Pars would reach 750 MMcm/d in the current Iranian calendar year.

Mohammad Meshkinfam, CEO of Pars Oil and Gas Co., said the spread of the coronavirus had not interrupted gas production from South Pars.

He was speaking during a visit to Assaluyeh and Kangan gas districts, where production from South Pars is processed.

Activities in the field remain as before, he said, and in accordance with safety and health standards.
