Petronas CCS Solutions has commissioned RINA to conduct a pre-FEED study for a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in Malaysia, according to a Dec. 11 RINA press release.
The contract relates to the development’s Kerteh-based Northern hub and the Southern hub in Kuantan.
RINA’s responsibilities cover the Northern hub’s onshore terminal, jetty and pipeline as well as the Southern hub’s onshore terminal, offshore pipeline and platform.
The facilities will capture CO2 emitted by local industries for subsequent storage in offshore geological formations.
RINA expects to complete its study by the end of this year. Its work includes formulating detailed plans for the infrastructure needed to manage the CO2, from its capture at the industrial sites to transportation via pipelines and eventual storage in formations such as depleted offshore oil fields.
