NORWICH, UK — INEOS has contracted Aquaterra Energy to support the life extension of the Nini platform in the Danish North Sea for a new role involving CO2 injection.
The partners in Project Greensand CCS aim to store up to 1.5 MM metric tons/year of CO2 by 2025, captured from various emitters in Europe and transported to the Nini platform. On arrival, the CO2 will be injected for permanent storage in a sandstone reservoir 1,800 m below the seabed.
Aquaterra will work on repurposing of the platform for CO2 injection through 2045, drawing on its experience in offshore platform structural analysis, brownfield engineering and asset life extension to determine the viability of the structure and assist implementation of any modifications.
The Nini platform represents the initial stage of the development, and it will form the basis for adaptations of further nearby platforms under later phases.
