OSLO, NorwayPanoro Tunisia Exploration has signed a heads of terms with state-owned drilling contractor Compagnie Tunisienne de Forage for a well on the Salloum West prospect offshore Tunisia.

TheCTF-4 is a 2,000-HP onshore rig: it will drill the well directionally from the shore into the prospect in the Sfax Offshore exploration permit.

Panoro expects drilling to start some time during the first half of 2019, subject to the entry into a second renewal period of the permit for three years, and the subsequent approval of the final drilling program and budget by state oil company ETAP.

Discussions for the renewal are under way with the Tunisian authorities.

The main objective of the SAMW-1 well will be the Bireno formation, at a vertical depth of around 3,200 m (10,498 ft). Based on analysis of 2D and 3D seismic, Panoro has identified an extension of the Salloum structure to the west.

The well will target an independent fault compartment up-dip from the Salloum-1 well which British Gas drilled in 1992, subsequently testing the Bireno formation at a rate of 1,846 b/d.

If SAMW-1 can prove additional resources Panoro plans to subsequently fasttrack the development of Salloum through a tie-in to nearby oil infrastructure.

Drilling equipment for the deviated is already owned and stored at the company’s Sfax warehouse.
