OSLO -- ExxonMobil has clearance from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to drill a wildcat in the Balder area of the Norwegian North Sea.

The semisub Aker Barents will drill well 25/10-10 in production license 028 S following preparations at the Ølen shipyard in Rogaland County.

The drilling program for wellbore 25/10-10 relates to the drilling of a wildcat well in production licence 028 S. ExxonMobil is the operator with a 100% ownership interest, but Det norske oljeselskap is managing the drilling activity, in exchange for a farm-in to the license, which covers the eastern part of block 25/10.

Well 25/10-10, the first on the license, will be located just west of the Balder field in the central Norwegian North Sea.
