East Coast, eastern GoM leasing announced by Obama

Plans to place East Coast and additional eastern Gulf of Mexico federal waters up for lease were announced today by US President Barak Obama and Interior Secretary Kenneth Salazar.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Plans to place East Coast and additional eastern Gulf of Mexico federal waters up for lease were announced today by US President Barak Obama and Interior Secretary Kenneth Salazar. The East Coast areas would be south of New Jersey and the eastern GoM areas would be at least 125 mi offshore Florida.

The pair said that other southern and Middle Atlantic areas might be included in lease offerings after 2012.

At the same time, leasing in Bristol Bay, Alaska, was taken off the board and additional Chukchi and Beaufort seas leasing was delayed to beyond 2012.
